Motherhood is a unique journey, and for many women, it can also be a challenge filled with obstacles and lessons. This has been the experience of Verónica Hidalgo, Miss Spain 2005, who is about to fulfill the greatest dream of her life: becoming a mother. Eight months pregnant, Verónica is counting down the days until she can hold her first daughter in her arms, a baby who has been deeply desired and eagerly awaited with immense joy.
The journey to this moment has not been easy for the 43-year-old model and entrepreneur. In a recent interview, Verónica opened her heart and shared her experience with assisted fertility, a process that led her to face physical and emotional challenges that, nevertheless, did not extinguish her hope.
The dream of becoming a mother began several years ago for Verónica and her partner, Juan Andrés González. However, the journey was marked by frustrations, medical consultations, and treatments that initially did not yield the desired results. "You become obsessed, and it’s something you suffer through in silence," Verónica confessed. The words of those who tried to console her, such as the infamous “when you relax, you’ll get pregnant,” only added to the misunderstanding surrounding fertility issues.
After several failed attempts, the discovery of a blockage in her fallopian tubes was the key to moving forward. Thanks to a surgery that resolved this issue, Verónica was able to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), which ultimately resulted in the long-awaited pregnancy.
But what is in vitro fertilization?
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproduction procedure in which an egg is retrieved from a woman’s ovary and combined with sperm in a laboratory to achieve fertilization. The main steps are:
1. Hormonal stimulation to produce multiple eggs.
2. Egg retrieval.
3. Sperm collection.
4. Fertilization in the laboratory.
5. Embryo culture.
6. Embryo transfer to the uterus.
It is a technique used to treat fertility issues such as:
• Blocked fallopian tubes.
• Endometriosis.
• Ovulation problems.
• Male infertility.
• Advanced age.
• Previous reproductive failures.
In vitro fertilization is not just a procedure; it is an act of love and resilience. “It wasn’t easy; there were moments when I felt I couldn’t go on,” she recalled emotionally. But her perseverance and the support of her partner were key. Now, just a few weeks away from giving birth, Verónica radiates happiness and gratitude for the gift life has given her.
Amid this stage full of expectations, Verónica feels fulfilled. In her recent appearance at the Rastrillo de Nuevo Futuro, a charitable cause she supports every year, she couldn’t contain her excitement when talking about her daughter. “She is a very wanted baby girl,” she said with a radiant smile, while hinting that the little one might arrive as a "Three Kings Day gift," since her due date is set for January 11.
Although the model admits she is still finalizing details for her baby’s arrival, such as decorating the nursery, she is approaching everything calmly and with great excitement. “We are preparing everything little by little, with so much joy,” she confessed.
Looking to the future with hope.
With three frozen eggs, Verónica does not rule out expanding her family in the future. Although she doesn’t have concrete plans yet, her experience has filled her with strength and optimism. “I’d love not to wait too long,” she commented, hinting that her motherhood journey might continue in the coming years.
Verónica Hidalgo’s story is a reminder that the greatest dreams may require time, effort, and perseverance, but they are also the most rewarding.
For many women facing similar challenges, her words are a source of hope and comfort: it is never too late to pursue what fills your heart.
