The Fertility Secret of a Star: Discover Her Decision to Freeze Eggs

In the modern world, where life decisions and professional careers often take the forefront, many women find themselves considering options that allow them greater control over their reproductive future. Among these options, egg freezing emerges as an increasingly popular choice.

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, represents a revolution in reproductive planning and female autonomy. This process allows women to preserve their fertility for the future, beginning with a phase of ovarian stimulation, followed by egg retrieval and subsequent preservation.

It is an option that provides women with the freedom to decide when they want to become mothers without the pressure imposed by the biological clock and at a time that suits their lifestyle.

Biological age: a crucial factor

A woman's age plays a fundamental role in fertility. With advancing age, both the quantity and quality of eggs decrease, affecting the chances of conceiving. Egg freezing is optimal before the age of 35, although informed decisions can be made at later ages with appropriate medical guidance, although this may vary depending on individual circumstances. It is vital for women considering egg freezing to undergo a fertility assessment to better understand their reproductive situation.

Recently, Vanity Fair magazine in Italy published an article dedicated to Ludovica Coscione, where she expresses her opinion on egg freezing: "Preserving fertility in youth to increase the chances of having a child even at 40 or after an illness. Today it is possible thanks to egg freezing. Here's what it's about and why it allows women to postpone motherhood until the 'right time'."

The author of this generational manifesto is Ludovica Coscione. An Italian actress, Neapolitan, 25 years old, who has been acting in Rai series (Italy's most important national channel) for almost a decade, accumulating audiences and consensus, from 'Non dirlo al mio capo' to 'Che Dio ci aiuti', including the phenomenon 'Mare fuori'.

Ludovica talks about how she wants to take her career further, towards the next exam at the Law faculty, towards America, towards the "educated" battles she wants to carry forward, "because it is important that people with certain followings create debate, address divisive issues to make them clearer and perhaps normalize them, open knowledge and doors."

Indeed, cryopreservation has timidly entered the public debate after some celebrities began to speak about their personal experiences: from Bianca Balti to Emily Ratajkowski.

For her part, Ludovica commented that she discovered egg freezing during her first trip to New York a few years ago. She mentioned hearing stories of some single women with careers who froze their eggs, regardless of their pathologies and medical problems, so that in the future they could inseminate them and be mothers.

Recently, content creator Laura Comolli shared on social media the steps she followed for egg freezing. Needless to say, it attracted a series of criticisms, some of the most popular being: "Children are had according to the laws of nature" and "These are whims that few can afford to satisfy."

To which Ludovica commented that it did not surprise her, as it is a topic that is little known and that for many it remains a taboo subject, although she thinks it is less taboo than talking about infertility, gynecological visits, self-examination, especially among people of her same generation.

Also, she was asked if she was attentive to her biological clock, to which she replied: "I have a WhatsApp chat with a dozen close friends, and a few days ago we were commenting on the fact that a twenty-something like us was pregnant: it shouldn't seem strange, but we have postponed motherhood so much that in the end it is, because first comes the career, first comes economic stability, first comes the whole life to discover, before feeling ready. Besides, at 35, they tell you that you are young, that you still have time to have children."

She also talks about the differences between Italy and Europe regarding egg freezing, comparing, for example, with Spain: "As a Law student, I respond that imposing a law from above, without a cultural basis, does not work. That's why I insist: first knowledge, also through word of mouth among peers, then reform. Let's make egg freezing a viral issue, let's highlight a need, delve into it and then think about the rest. There is much work to be done, since Law 40 of 2004, which I studied at university, allows heterologous fertilization, but not for same-sex couples or singles. So: freezing yes, but not entirely social."

What are the most common doubts about egg freezing?

1. Is the procedure safe?: Egg freezing is a safe procedure with increasing success rates thanks to improvements in vitrification techniques.

2. How long can eggs be frozen? Eggs can remain frozen for an extensive period without significant deterioration in their quality, offering women flexibility in their reproductive planning.

3. What considerations should I keep in mind? It is crucial to consider factors such as current age, overall health status, and personal and professional goals. Consultation with a fertility specialist can provide valuable guidance.
