Did you know that vaping could be affecting your fertility?

In recent years, vapers have gained popularity, presenting themselves as a less harmful alternative to traditional tobacco. But how true is this?

We all know that tobacco is an addictive substance, and so is vaping. Many people vape occasionally thinking it's healthier than tobacco, but what they don't know is that both tobacco and vaping could be playing Russian roulette with their fertility. Yes, you read that right—those small moments of pleasure could be compromising your dream of having children in the future.

But, what is a vape?

The vape, also known as an electronic cigarette, is a device invented by the Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik in the year 2003, motivated by the death of his father due to lung cancer, a disease related to tobacco use.

This device contains a liquid solution, known as vape liquid, which is inhaled as vapor. Typically, it contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals.

Consequences of vaping in women and men.

In women:

- Longer time to achieve conception.

- Accelerates ovarian aging.

- Reduces ovarian reserve.

Furthermore, it's important for you to know that smoking during assisted reproduction treatments, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), can result in poorer outcomes in ovarian stimulation and a higher rate of miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies.

In men:

- It can alter the concentration, morphology, quality, mobility, and quantity of sperm. These changes can damage the genetic material of the sperm, making a successful and healthy pregnancy more difficult.

- Issues such as erectile dysfunction can arise.

Other consequences:

- Increased blood pressure.

- Increased heart rate.

- Arterial stiffness.

- Development of heart diseases.

- Stroke.

- Development of lung diseases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that quitting smoking can reduce the likelihood of suffering from impotence, difficulties in getting pregnant, premature births, babies with low birth weight, and miscarriages.

They also warn that the toxic components in vapers can cause endocrine imbalances, affecting crucial glands such as the thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, and testicular and ovarian function.

Following this line, you should know that all is not lost; you have the power to change this situation. Quitting smoking or vaping can improve your life and overall health.

The good news is that you are reading this now, and knowledge is power. Perhaps you are thinking about your future, about the family you want to have someday, or maybe you know someone who is struggling to conceive. This information could be crucial.
